Tibetan Medicine

Dr. Yangbum Gyal travels to Cincinnati from the Center for Wholism in Bloomington, Indiana twice per month to offer detailed training classes at our center. Tibetan medicine is a science, art, and philosophy that provides a holistic approach to health care. It is a science because its principles are enumerated in a systematic and logical framework based on an understanding of the body and its relationship to the environment. It is an art because it uses diagnostic techniques based on the creativity, insight, subtlety, and compassion of the medical practitioner. And it is a philosophy because it embraces the key Buddhist principles of altruism, karma, and ethics. This class will cover the following topics within Tibetan medicine: a brief presentation on the Three Humors and their relation to your body, a description of the reactions when the Three Humors are in imbalance and its cause, a discussion of what is a balanced and healthy body and mind, a discussion of diagnosis and its techniques, a show of how the treatments of herbs, diet, lifestyle modification, energy work, meditation, and physical activity is vital to your wellness and finally a discussion on the significance of one’s commitment on diet and behavior to their health.
